Google and Highlights for Children Webinar
Wednesday, October 8, 2025 (10:00 AM - 11:00 AM) (EDT)
Description
The internet opens doors for kids to explore, learn, and grow like never before, but it also comes with new challenges. As more young people go online and innovations like AI are introduced, how can libraries help children build safe, healthy relationships with the digital world?
To support families and educators, Google and Highlights for Children have teamed up to create a fun, educational internet safety kit based on Google's Be Internet Awesome curriculum. This kid-friendly kit features a special edition of Highlights Magazine along with puzzles, activities, and conversation starters — all designed to teach digital citizenship in a way that’s engaging and age-appropriate.
The content is aligned with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce's Learning Standards for Grades 2–5, making them a valuable resource for youth programming, school partnerships and community outreach.
Free Internet Safety Kits for Ohio's Public Libraries
The OLC is working with Highlights for Children to make these internet safety kits available to public libraries around the state. Google is funding the distribution to each of Ohio’s 251 public library systems.
Participation is voluntary and libraries may choose how they wish to incorporate the kits into their programs and services. Ohio is the first state in the nation to pilot this program.
Webinar Recording and Resources
The OLC hosted a webinar with Jennifer Faux, VP Product Innovation, Highlights for Children to explain the curriculum, what's included in the kit, and how your library can request a box. Each box includes 100 kits.
