POSITION TITLE: Uptown Branch Manager
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director
DIRECT REPORTS: Adult Services Manager, Customer Services Manager, Youth Services Manager
SALARY RANGE: R22, starting at $41.75/hr
STATUS: Exempt
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Uptown Branch Manager is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and overseeing all public service elements for the branch; is responsible for the day-to-day operations all public service elements.
Oversees patron operations for the library.
Provides high-level coordination in the planning, development and implementation of branch-wide programs and services.
Ensures branch resources are allocated in accordance with library goals and priorities.
Provides leadership and support to direct reports during branch-wide projects. This can include cross-departmental communication and advocacy.
Develops guidelines for the monitoring and evaluation of branch programs.
Serves as a member of the Leadership Team.
Responds to escalated patron concerns regarding branch patron service.
Provides on-going and as-needed information to the Assistant Director for daily operations and monthly reports for the Board of Trustees.
Coordinates activities and ensures effective exchange of information with other library systems.
Works collaboratively with the Building Manager to ensure public services standard are maintained while work is in process in the building.
Monitors facility needs, reports issues to Maintenance, follows-up and advocates for optimal outcomes.
Interviews, hires, develops and evaluates direct reports. This includes coaching on like presentations, personnel issues, time management and other organizational needs.
Provides input on branch budget development and guides direct reports in adhering to budgeted allocations.
Trains and oversees Librarians-In-Charge.
Maintains active involvement in the community.
REQUIREMENTS
Masters’ degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
A minimum of five (5) years’ progressive experience in library management and administration or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of patron service principles and practices and proven ability to ensure high quality patron service in a consistent manner.
Experience and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques and practices.
Knowledge of public administration principles and practices.
Organizational development principles.
Understanding of budget development processes and budget administration.
Knowledge of employee training and development methods.
The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
The ability to prepare persuasive, accurate and concise reports and present those reports to the Directors, the Board of Trustees or other groups as necessary.
The ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
The ability to identify future needs of the library and develop plans to meet them.
The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical requirements include: sedentary work – exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to carry, lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
