Position Type: Full-time (Exempt; includes evenings and weekends)

Position Summary

The Bellaire Public Library seeks a qualified, innovative, and community-oriented professional to serve as its next Library Director. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Director is responsible for the overall administration of the library, including strategic planning, staff supervision, fiscal management, collection development, facilities oversight, and community engagement.

The Director works collaboratively with the Board to establish policies and long-term goals, ensuring high-quality library services that meet the evolving needs of the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction for all library operations, services, and staff
• Develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and service initiatives
• Manage the library’s budget in collaboration with the Fiscal Officer and Board of Trustees
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate library personnel
• Foster community partnerships and represent the library in professional and public settings
• Oversee collection development, facilities management, and daily operations
• Pursue grant funding and support fundraising efforts
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

Qualifications

• Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution (or ability to complete within 3 years of hire)
• Minimum of 5 years of public library management and supervisory experience
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Experience with budgeting, strategic planning, and community engagement
• Proficiency with current library technologies and systems

Additional Requirements

• Reliable transportation and ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
• Successful completion of a background check
