Ohio Voters Approve 100% of Public Library Levies

On May 6, voters across Ohio delivered a resounding show of support for their public libraries, approving every levy on the ballot. The approved measures included eight renewals, two replacements, two additional/new, and one bond. With an average voter approval rate of 69 percent, the outcome reflects broad public confidence in the vital role libraries play in Ohio communities.

Even amid uncertainty over state-level library funding, Ohioans made their priorities clear: they value their libraries and recognize them as sound investments and trusted stewards of public resources.

“We’re incredibly grateful for this outpouring of support,” said Michelle Francis, Executive Director of the Ohio Library Council. “These results send a clear message that Ohioans, regardless of where they live, see libraries as essential public institutions that deserve sustained support at every level.”

As state policymakers deliberate budget priorities, the clear local endorsement underscores how deeply Ohioans value access to library services.

“These results reflect the deep connection communities have with their libraries,” Francis added. “They’re a testament to the trust voters place in libraries, not only as centers for learning and literacy, but also as hubs for workforce development and digital access.”

Francis cautioned that even with this strong showing at the ballot box, the financial stability of Ohio’s public libraries remains at risk if lawmakers reduce or eliminate the Public Library Fund in the state budget.

“Public support is loud and clear,” Francis said. “We hope state leaders recognize how much their constituents rely on library services.”
